I meant to review the Bridgedale X-Hale Multisport a while back, but the circumstance under which I wore these styling socks didn’t feel particularly outdoorsy, so I put it off. Since then I’ve logged some miles in them on out on the trail, and mountain biking up in the Catskills. But it’s that first wear that stuck with me. It was a hot August night in New York City and I stood for nearly three hours on the third floor balcony of the Bowery Ballroom waiting for Rocco Deluca to take the stage and then he owned it for another 90 minutes. But you know what? In retrospect, having your feet stay cool and comfortable while rocking out for four and a half hours is as bold a endorsement as any day out out on the trail. So here goes…
The first thing that strikes you about the Bridgedale X-Hale Multisport is that it’s a damn good looking sock. Navy Blue and Silver in an almost tiger-like pattern. Bridgedale is known for making socks that last, Their headquartered in Northern Ireland, and many of their socks, including the X-Hale, are guaranteed for three years. Yeah, three years. The X-Hale is a light cushion, 3 season sock perfect for hiking running, x-training… hence the Multisport. Bridgedale’s proprietary ‘WoolFusion®’ combines the highest quality natural yarns; Merino wool or Tough wool, and fuses them with high performance Endurofil™ for superior loft, temperature control and wicking ability. And after standing in a packed Rock-n-Roll hall for several hours, I can tell you, they deliver.
The cut is a nice tall 1/4 sock that stays in place. Bridgedale offers ample arch and heel protection from chafing and forefoot breathable panels. It’s not the sock you’d want to wear if it was below freezing, but on a crisp autumn morning when you walk up to a trail head sign, you can feel confident that it’s going to be a good day to be your feet.
